BRISTOL, Tenn. – OK, it wasn’t the meow game from “Super Troopers,’’ but Ryan Blaney’s press conference certainly had some velvet undertones.
The Sprint Cup rookie slipped the word “velvet” in five times during his 9-minute, 25-second session with the media Friday at Bristol Motor Speedway. After saying velvet for a third time, Blaney had to stop because he was laughing so much.
Blaney used velvet in these ways:
- “Hopefully, this race will go as smooth as velvet this weekend.
- “It’s been going OK this year, but we just need to find a little bit more speed and a little bit more consistency and that will get our season back on track and we’ll be able to, hopefully, buy us like some new velvet sheets or something like that.’’
- “The further you move up, this track is really smooth, pretty much like velvet.’’
Asked if he had a bet with someone, possibly friend Darrell Wallace Jr., to say the word velvet so often, Blaney responded: “No one, man, I just like the word. Velvet. Had some velvet ice cream back there in the cooler. It was really good.’’
After his session ended, Blaney stood and then reached back for the microphone to say something else but it was turned off.
That left him with only five velvets. Just half the total of meows said in “Super Troopers.’’
