Richard Petty, foundation thank firefighters for quick response

Petty fire donation

Nearly two weeks ago, a fire broke out at Petty’s Garage, next door to the Richard Petty Museum.

The fire threatened to do significant damage to decades of Petty memorabilia and classic race cars and vehicles housed on the historical site of Petty Enterprises, adjacent to the home Petty and his siblings were raised.

But thanks to the immediate response of the Level Cross (North Carolina) Fire Department and assistance from surrounding agencies, damage was minimal and the fire was quickly contained and extinguished.

What could have been a disaster was averted – and for that, The King was very grateful.

Petty and the Petty Family Foundation showed their gratitude this week by donating $1,000 to Level Cross Station 43 firefighters to say “thanks” for their quick work in keeping damage to a minimum.

“Because of their efforts, damage to our facility was minimal,” Shannon Newman, Petty Family Foundation Director of Development, said in a media release.

“This donation from the Petty family is their way to demonstrate their appreciation and support for our community firefighters. They are such an important part of the Level Cross community, and we sincerely thank Chief Russell and his staff.”

Clean-up and repair is expected to be complete by mid-May. To thank fans and local residents for their support, the museum is offering half-off on admission prices through that same time period.
