Kevin Harvick channeling Cale Yarborough for Southern 500

Harvick

For this year’s Southern 500, Kevin Harvick will drive a paint scheme that hasn’t been seen since the first year of the Reagan Administration.

Thanks to a branding move from Budweiser to Busch this season, Harvick’s No. 4 Chevrolet will look like the No. 11 car once driven by Cale Yarborough. The three-time Sprint Cup champion drove the No. 11 Busch car in 1979 and 1980, winning 10 races in it for owner Junior Johnson.

The most well-known moment associated with the paint scheme’s time in the sport was the 1979 Daytona 500, when Yarborough wrecked with Donnie Allison on the final lap.

Yarborough won at Darlington five times in 49 starts.

The Southern 500 will be run on Sept. 4 on NBC.
