The NASCAR America crew discusses what Tony Stewart's rehab program to help his back means for his return to the track.

Tony Stewart says his injured back is improving but he won’t know when he can begin his final NASCAR Sprint Cup season until scans are taken later this month, according to an ESPN.com story.

Stewart suffered a burst fracture of his L1 vertebra in a Jan. 31 all-terrain accident in the California sand dunes. Brian Vickers and Ty Dillon have driven his No. 14 car for Stewart-Haas Racing this season while Stewart recovers. Vickers is in the car this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.

“I’ve been doing everything now over the last week that I’ve wanted to do,’' Stewart told ESPN.com on Thursday night after being honored at Texas Motor Speedway for his work with Speedway Children’s Charities.

“I’m anxious to get the scans. It’s driving me crazy wanting to see what it looks like and what is the diagnosis and when they think they’re going to let me go.”
