The NASCAR America crew takes a ride through the simulator at Texas Motor Speedway to break down the specific problems the course brings.

Carl Edwards scored his first pole of the season and second at Texas Motor Speedway for Saturday night’s Duck Commander 500. Edwards won the pole with a lap of 194.609 mph in the final round of qualifying.

“The tire, I don’t know what the other guys feel, the tire and downforce package for me lets me feel like I can go into the corner and move around and feel the tire underneath me,’' Edwards said. “Even in qualifying, there were times when I got a little sideways and it slid a little bit and I could recover and that’s really fun as a race car driver.”

Joey Logano (193.306 mph) will start alongside Edwards on the front row. Martin Truex Jr., who was fastest in Thursday’s practice, starts third after a lap of 193.306 mph with rookie Chase Elliott (193.036) fourth and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (192.940) fifth.

“I’m really proud of the improvements we made from Round 1 all the way through Round 3,’' Elliott said. “I’m very excited that we made the third round and was able to get a nice top five starting spot.”

Edwards enters this race with three consecutive top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish at Phoenix International Raceway. Edwards has placed seventh or better in all but one race this season.
