FORT WORTH -- Kevin Harvick and a Ford executive both expect the 2014 Sprint Cup champion to be with Stewart-Haas Racing in 2017.

With SHR’s announcement that it would go from Chevrolet to Ford next season, there was speculation Harvick wouldn’t be found racing a Ford after spending his entire Cup career with Chevy.

“There is nothing to it,” Harvick told ESPN Thursday of the Chevrolet rumors. “As far as I know, I thought I had a team extension that had two more years left on my contract.”

Harvick made the comments while attending an event at an elementary school in Trophy Club, Texas.

SHR representative Mike Arning told NBC Sports the team does not discuss driver contracts.

At Atlanta in February, Harvick said he hadn’t looked at or asked about his contract.

“To not be committed to them would be foolish on my part to be in the best position I’ve ever been in as a driver,” Harvick said then.

In March, Harvick’s tone about being with SHR hadn’t changed.

“I don’t see any reason why that wouldn’t happen, why that would change,’’ Harvick said at Phoenix International Raceway. “For me, I’m in the best position that I’ve been in with my team.

Harvick’s future with Ford is a certainty for Ford Performance’s Dave Pericak.

“There is no doubt in my mind,” Pericak told Motorsport.com. “He will be in a Ford.”

SHR has been with Chevrolet since its first season in the Sprint Cup Series in 2009. Team co-owner Gene Haas has been with Chevy every year except one (2003) since breaking into the sport in 2002.

If Harvick does stay with SHR, Ford Performance will be adding two Sprint Cup champions to its driver stable with Harvick and Kurt Busch. Busch won the 2004 crown while driving a Ford for Roush Fenway Racing.

Currently, the only Ford driver with a championship is Brad Keselowski, who won it in 2012 while driving a Dodge.
