For 56 wins and five championships, the No. 48 on the car of Jimmie Johnson appeared in yellow.
From 2002 to 2011, the number was as yellow as it could get. It made a return appearance in 2014 and then again last year in the season finale as a tribute to the retiring Jeff Gordon.
Hendrick Motorsports and Lowe’s, Johnson’s primary sponsor, announced on Tuesday the neon yellow digits would return beginning this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.
It was revealed by Johnson and his crew chief Chad Knaus on Twitter.

The buildup to the announcement started last Thursday when Johnson posted a picture on Twitter of one of his eight wins at Martinsville Speedway.
This was such an awesome win. Everything about this @LowesRacing car was 🔥🔥. #TBT pic.twitter.com/5aVFaY8deM

The return of the yellow digits will come at a track where Johnson hasn’t needed any nostalgic boost recently. The six-time series champion has won five of the past seven races at TMS, including the last three.
