Rookie Ben Rhodes captured the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series pole for Saturday afternoon’s Alpha Energy Solutions 250 at Martinsville Speedway.
The Louisville, Kentucky native was the only driver over 96 mph, clocking a best speed of 96.322 mph.
Kyle Busch (95.976 mph) will start the race alongside on the front row.
Johnny Sauter qualified third (95.864), followed by Cameron Hayley (95.845), Kyle Larson (95.757), Daniel Suarez (95.733), William Byron ((95.685), John Hunter Nemechek (95.636), Tyler Reddick (95.583), Matt Crafton (95.242), Spencer Gallagher (95.141) and Cole Custer (94.974).
There was one significant incident in the session. Tommy Joe Martins had just recorded the fastest speed in the first round of qualifying and then slammed into the Turn 1 wall, suffering significant damage to the rear of his truck.
It’s uncertain whether Martins will be able to go to a backup truck in time for this afternoon’s race.
