UPDATE: Fire at Richard Petty Garage quickly extinguished, minor damage

UPDATE 2:37 pm ET:

A fire at Petty’s Garage, owned by NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty, in Randleman, North Carolina, has been struck.

According to reporter Bailey Pennington of WFMY in Greensboro, N.C., the fire was contained to just one room and produced just minor damage. There was no damage to the adjacent Richard Petty Museum, according to tweets by Pennington.

Here is an official statement from Richard Petty Motorsports:

There was a fire today at the historical site of Petty Enterprises and now the current site of Petty’s Garage and the Richard Petty Museum.

The fire was contained to a portion of the building and was controlled quickly.

There were no injuries and minimal damage to the structure.

The Petty Family is grateful to the first responders.


Petty’s Garage and the Richard Petty Museum are located on the original grounds of Petty Enterprises, adjacent to the home where Richard Petty grew up.

A fire of undetermined origin that broke out at Petty’s Garage in Randleman, North Carolina, has been brought under control, according to WFMJ TV.

Damage has apparently been kept to a minimum as the Garage is expected to reopen for business on Monday, according to a tweet by reporter Bailey Pennington, as well as another tweet from Carolina’s Fire Page on the latest news from the scene:

A fire was reported Saturday afternoon at Petty’s Garage in Randleman, North Carolina, a complex owned by NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty.

The garage, which includes an automobile restoration business, is located at 311 Branson Mill Road in Randleman. It is adjacent to the Richard Petty Museum, located at 309 Branson Mill Road.

A second alarm was called, dispatching at least three stations and eight fire trucks to respond to the scene. According to WFMY in Greensboro, North Carolina, no one was inside the building, and the fire was under control. The initial call came at 12:40 p.m.
