Former NASCAR champion Darrell Waltrip said Tuesday that the Sprint All-Star race should move to Bristol Motor Speedway, according to The Tennessean.
“Can you imagine a race at Bristol, 70 laps for a million dollars to win?” the NASCAR Hall of Famer said at an appearance at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. “You’re talking about some bent-up sheet metal, some hurt feelings, and that TV that’s overhead. Put a boxing ring right underneath of it, because you’re going to need it.”
The Sprint All-Star Race has been run annually since 1985. Waltrip won the inaugural event. The race has been held at Charlotte Motor Speedway every year but once. It was held at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1986.
Denny Hamlin won last year’s Sprint All-Star race.
