Kyle Busch making return to Truck series at Martinsville

While it seems like an eternity since the Camping World Truck Series was last in action, it’s been awhile since Kyle Busch took laps in the series.

When the Truck series returns this weekend at Martinsville Speedway for the Alpha Energy Solutions 250, it will have Kyle Busch in the field for the first time since he competed in the UNOH 175 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last September, eight races ago.

Busch, a 44-time winner in the series, will drive the No. 18 Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports in Saturday’s race.

“With having a couple of young guys driving for us at KBM this year it will be a great opportunity to work alongside of them as a teammate,” Busch said in a team release of William Byron and Christopher Bell. “It’s a lot easier to answer any questions they might have when you are actually in the truck at the same time and experiencing some of the same things, as opposed to giving them direction based on your past experiences.”

Both Byron and Bell are in their rookie seasons in the Truck series. Bell won last year’s race at Eldora Speedway. Neither driver has finished better than 13th through two races with each collecting a DNF.

“It will be especially helpful this weekend, since I haven’t raced in a Truck Series race at Martinsville since 2011,” Busch said. “The last two or three times that I did race the trucks at Martinsville we came really close to getting a win and collecting a grandfather clock — hopefully we can finish it off this time. I’ve been able to get to victory lane as an owner at Martinsville, but not as a driver, so the goal this weekend is to change that and hopefully leave with a pair of them.”

Through eight starts at Martinsville in the Truck series, Busch has four top-five finishes and placed second in his last two attempts in 2010 and 2011.

Busch made four starts in the Truck series in 2015 and won twice.
