Drivers will have a new view when they enter Turn 1 at Sonoma Raceway and fans all across the 1.9-mile road course will have better time keeping track of what’s happening during a race.

The track announced Thursday it is constructing an 85-foot tall Panasonic LED scoring pylon that will be located to the right of the entrance of Turn 1.

The pylon will be 26 feet taller than the leader board it is replacing, which had been used since 1994. Construction begins at the end of March and should be complete in time for NASCAR’s June 24-26 race weekend.

The track is also adding an 84 x 12-foot LED video board on the front of its three-story Drag Tower building.

The new systems will show videos, graphic overlays, real-time statistics and custom content.

“These two new displays are going to be spectacular and will correct what has been a major deficiency in the guest experience at Sonoma Raceway,” said track president and general manager Steve Page in a release. “We can’t wait to fire them up.”
