None hurt in Casey Mears’ fire on pit road

Overlooked Sunday in the Auto Club 400 was a fire in the pit box of Casey Mears.

The accident, which occurred without injury, happened when Mears brought his No. 13 Chevrolet to pit road during the Lap 120 caution.

The fire erupted at the left rear of the car when a hot lug nut made contact with gasoline.

The fire was quickly extinguished, and Mears went on to finish 17th. He is 26th in the points heading into the off week.
