Austin Dillon tops Sprint Cup practice at Auto Club Speedway

Austin Dillon was one of four drivers faster than the track record at Auto Club Speedway in the first Sprint Cup practice Friday.

Kyle Busch owns the track record with a lap of 188.245 mph set in qualifying in Feb. 2005. Dillon topped the field Friday with a lap of 188.511 mph. Also above Busch’s mark was Martin Truex Jr. (188.432 mph), Kevin Harvick (188.304) and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (188.289). Chris Buescher was fifth quickest at 187.823 mph.

No Joe Gibbs Racing drivers were in the top 10 in practice. Busch was 15th to lead the group with a lap of 187.212 mph. Denny Hamlin ranked 16th (187.139 mph), Matt Kenseth was 24th (186.466) and Carl Edwards was 25th (186.384).

There were no incidents in the session.
