After 156 laps, Carl Edwards is the leader at the halfway point in the Good Sam 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Edwards has led 48 consecutive laps since taking the lead under caution just past Lap 105.

Edwards is followed by pole-sitter Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kurt Busch, Chase Elliott, Joey Logano, Austin Dillon and Aric Almirola.

The first caution came on Lap 52 when Ryan Newman lost a right-side tire and smacked into the outside wall entering Turn 3.

Kyle Busch left the pits first after taking only two tires and stayed in the lead until Lap 75 when Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the lead after starting 26th.

Earnhardt built a 3-second lead until Lap 106. Paul Menard caused the second caution when his No. 27 Chevrolet hit the wall in Turn 3, just a few feet shy of the earlier imapct for Newman, his Richard Childress Racing teammate.

Goodyear Racing tweeted that a melted bead from excessive heat was the culprit for both of RCR’s tire failures.

Pits stops resulted in Edwards nipping Kyle Busch at the exit of pit lane to gain the lead for the first time.
