The first incident of contact has occurred on Lap 215 of Sunday’s Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Regan Smith got loose coming out of Turn 4 and collected the car of Kyle Larson, who backed into the inside retaining wall, causing significant damage.

Smith was able to pit and get back on-track, falling one lap behind the leaders. Larson’s team is attempting to make repairs on pit road.

At Lap 217, under caution, Joey Logano is scored as the leader in the 267 lap race. The day has been marked by a plethora of different weather conditions, starting with rain that delayed the start of the race for nearly 30 minutes.

Then, after sunny skies, a sandstorm occurred that blew across Turns 1 and 2, but cars were able to continue racing. Heavy wind gusts over 40 mph have also been recorded.

Teams are scrambling because another rainstorm is quickly approaching from the northwest and it’s uncertain whether the remaining 50 laps will be completed.
