While most drivers, especially Dale Earnhardt Jr., had positive reviews for the new low downforce package used last weekend at Atlanta, the question remains as to how it will fare in Vegas.

The first of two Sprint Cup test sessions at Las Vegas Motor Speedway finished with Jimmie Johnson, the winner at Atlanta on Sunday, atop the speed chart.

The four-time Las Vegas winner finished the session with a speed of 192.981 mph after 18 laps on the 1.5-mile track.

He was followed by Denny Hamlin (192.843 mph), Matt Kenseth (192.137), Brian Vickers (191.564) and Danica Patrick (191.211). Vickers is driving the No. 14 car for Tony Stewart.

Defending race winner Kevin Harvick was 12th fastest. Rookie Chase Elliott (20th fastest) recorded the most track time with 45 laps. He was followed by fellow rookie Ryan Blaney and Vickers at 44 laps.

The second test session lasts three hours and begins at 3 p.m. ET.
