Stewart-Haas Racing's move to Ford from Chevrolet has consequences for Hendrick Motorsports. GM Doug Douchart said the companies will be as professional as they can in 2016.

Car owner Richard Childress says he’s had talks with other manufacturers but remains committed to Chevrolet, a brand he’s won all six of his Sprint Cup championships with and 11 titles in NASCAR’s three national series.

“I go back to 1985 when RCR didn’t have nothing and Chevrolet and General Motors stepped in,’’ Childress said Thursday on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “I’m just trying to be as loyal, and I will be as loyal as I can with General Motors.

“Who knows what is in the future, but right now, no, I don’t see anything changing with RCR, but we have talked to the manufacturers … we’re still here with Chevy and proud to be with General Motors.’’

With Stewart-Haas Racing’s move from Chevrolet to Ford next season, Chevrolet loses four cars. While Ford and Toyota each has one engine supplier for its top Cup teams, Chevrolet has two: Hendrick’s engine program and ECR Engines, which is affiliated with Richard Childress Racing.

Asked on “The Morning Drive” about the possibility of aligning with the Hendrick engine program, Childress said: “Not really. We built a great operation down here. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but right now, ECR, we’re doing a lot of work.

“I see us on the same level as the Hendrick group when it comes to customers and working and making things happen, but you never know, if it’s the right business opportunity, all of us have to look at what we’re going to do. We’re really happy and pleased with where we’re at, and I’m sure Rick Hendrick is the same with his operation.’’

Hendrick supplies Cup engines for Chip Ganassi Racing and HScott Motorsports. Hendrick also supplies engines for JR Motorsports’ Xfinity and Truck teams, Athenian Motorsports’ Xfinity and Truck teams for John Wes Townley and Ganassi’s Xfinity team.

ECR Engines supplies all three of Richard Childress’ Cup teams, along with JTG Daugherty, Tommy Baldwin Racing, Circle Sport-Leavine Family Racing and Germain Racing. ECR Engines supply engines for all of RCR’s Xfinity teams, along with RSS Racing, Kaulig Racing and GMS Racing. ECR Engines also supply GMS Racing’s Camping World Truck teams and NEMCO Motorsport’s Truck team, along with Chevrolet Daytona Prototype teams.
