Daytona International Speedway president Joie Chitwood explains what went into the track's recent $400 million overhaul, including operating and renovating at the same time.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The debut of the Daytona Rising project will be standing room only.

Daytona International Speedway, which underwent a $400 million makeover of its grandstands over the past two seasons, announced a sellout of its reserved stadium tickets for Sunday’s Daytona 500.

There are 101,500 permanent and wider new seats, which are located only on the frontstretch.

“We’re ecstatic to hold the first Daytona 500 since the completion of our $400 million Daytona Rising project,” DIS president Joie Chitwood III said in a release. “The demand for this historic race has been tremendous and we look forward to waving the green flag on February 21.”

The track also features five expanded and redesigned entrances, 40 escalators and other upgraded amenities throughout 11 football field-sized “neighborhoods.”

DIS officials said the 58th annual Great American Race will be attended by fans from 44 countries and every U.S. state.
