Report: Bristol Motor Speedway may host a second college football game

The highly anticipated Virginia Tech-Tennessee college football game at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 10 may not be a one-and-done deal.

The Johnson City (Tennessee) Press reported Wednesday that East Tennessee State University is negotiating to play a game at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 17 against Southern Conference rival Western Carolina. That game would come one week after the Virginia Tech-Tennessee “Battle Of Bristol” contest.

The Press reported that “people close to the deal have confirmed” that negotiations have taken place.

A spokesperson for Bristol Motor Speedway told NASCAR Talk that it will issue an official comment on the report Thursday afternoon.

East Tennessee is located about 30 miles from Bristol Motor Speedway and oftentimes utilizes the track as part of its official recruiting program for student-athletes interested in attending the school.

Because the track holds about 150,000 seats, it’s expected that the Virginia Tech-Tennessee game may set a record for the largest college football game crowd ever.

The current attendance record of 115,109 was set in a 2013 game between Notre Dame and Michigan at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.
