Dale Earnhardt Jr. looks “forward to getting married” but the Sprint Cup star is kicking himself.

Though happy he proposed to fiance Amy Reimann during a vacation to Germany to visit his ancestor’s hometown, Earnhardt has one regret.

“I’m frustrated with myself that I didn’t do it sooner,” Earnhardt said Thursday at the NASCAR Media Tour. “It’s as good as it gets. Having her in my life has made my life an amazing thing. I really didn’t know that it could be this good.”

But Earnhardt’s even more happy to help Reimann take care of the details of the wedding, which likely won’t happen until the 2016 Sprint Cup season is over.

“I’m not been giving her any orders,” Earnhardt said. “I’m going to really enjoy the process of putting that together with her and supporting her.”

The 13-time most popular driver say it’s a “great feeling to be able to depend on somebody” and that Reimann “surprises me every day with her generosity.”

When the time comes for the wedding date to be revealed, don’t expect it to come via Earnhardt’s Twitter account, like news of the engagement.

“She’ll make that announcement, not me,” Earnhardt said.
