Team Penske has announced the promotion of Brian Wilson to the position of crew chief on the No. 22 Ford Mustang in the Xfinity Series.

Wilson succeeds Greg Erwin, who led the No. 22 to 25 wins with four drivers and three owner’s championships over the last three seasons. The No. 22 won with Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney and AJ Allmendinger behind the wheel.

Erwin moves into the role of team manager.

Wilson will make the transition from being the race engineer on both the No. 22 and prior to that on the No. 2 driven by Keselowski in the Sprint Cup Series.

“This is a team that has certainly proven that they know how to win and I want to continue that tradition,” Wilson said in a press release. “I’m excited to get a chance to continue to work with Brad and to get to work more closely with Joey and Ryan. Our goal will be to maintain the level of success that this team has shown since its beginning and continue to race for wins each and every week. Winning that fourth-straight NASCAR XFINITY Series Owners’ Championship would just be the ultimate prize.”

Wilson joined Team Penske in 2004 as a shock specialist. He then became the race engineer of the No. 2 Sprint Cup car in 2007 before moving into the same role on the N0. 22 Xfinity car in 2010.

Wilson’s first race as crew chief will be the PowerShares QQQ 300 at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 20.
