SS Green Light Racing announced Wednesday that Ray Black Jr. will compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for team owner Bobby Dotter.

Black will drive the No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet Camaro and will continue with Jason Miller as his crew chief.

Dotter owned the Camping World Truck Series team that Black raced for last season with Miller as his crew chief. Now all three have upped their game and stepped up to the Xfinity Series for the first time together.

Black finished 11th in the Truck points standings last year. He had one top-five, 12 top-15 finishes and an average finish of 16.7.

The Palm Coast, Florida, native also made one Xfinity Series start for Dotter last season, finishing 27th in the fall race at Texas.

“I’m very eager for this season to start and to take the next step in racing by moving up to the NASCAR Xfinity Series,” Black said in a media release. “It’s a much bigger stage with some of the best racing competition in the world.

“The Truck series was a great starting point for me in NASCAR, but it’s always good to keep challenging yourself, and I feel that’s what this move will do for me. It’s a great opportunity for me to show everyone what I can do.”

Said Dotter: “We ran one Xfinity race with Ray last year, and it went much better than everyone expected. Ray really took to the feel of the car. Our goal was always to be in the Xfinity Series with Ray; we’ve just sped up that timeline a little bit. Ray is ready for the step up, and the team is ready to grow with him.”
