Greg Biffle and members of the board of directors of his charitable foundation have unveiled plans to build an 11,500-square-foot building that will house one of -- no pun intended -- Biffle’s pet projects: Friends of the Animals.

The facility, to be built on 2.5 acres between Mooresville and Huntersville, North Carolina, will open by the end of this year, according to a report in The Charlotte Observer.

Biffle is a long-time animal rights supporter, particularly dogs and cats. His foundation supports more than 500 animal shelters and humane treatment groups across the country.

The new building will include a number of pet-related services, including education, adoption, boarding, a medical clinic and spaying and neutering services.

“It’s tragic that 77 dogs and cats a day are euthanized in the greater Lake Norman region,” Biffle said. “When we started dreaming of this project, it was close to 100. And although the rate of euthanasia has gone down over the years, the numbers killed are still staggering.”
