shorttrack

No one was hurt in a late-night fire that destroyed the three story control tower at the Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, according to the Daily Home.

The fire was reported at 8:25 pm Sunday night and when a police officer arrived at the track located two miles from Talladega Superspeedway, the tower was already consumed.

The tower contained the control center, a concession stand and a VIP suite.

The Lincoln Fire Department stayed on site until the fire was extinguished after midnight.

The fire is still under investigation, but track owner Lynn Phillips told the Daily Home the planned “Ice Bowl” at the 1/3-mile red clay oval from Jan. 7-10 will go ahead as planned.
