If you sense a slight disturbance in the Force today, it’s because history is being made down in Florida.

Mark Dec. 14, 2015 as the day the era of Chase Elliott in the No. 24 began.

Elliott, who replaces the now retired Jeff Gordon, will be behind the wheel of the No. 24 Chevrolet as part of a Goodyear tire test at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Elliott is one of four drivers participating in the test with a lineup closely resembling the final four Chase for the Sprint Cup drivers.

Elliott is joined by Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr. and Brian Scott, who will be driving the No. 9 for Richard Petty Motorsports for the first time.

“I’m excited to get in and start working with them for the first time,” Elliott told Motorsport.com. “I’ve spent a lot of time with (crew chief) Alan Gustafason. “A couple of times throughout the year, I stuck around after the Xfinity races and watched the races with them.

“It gave me the opportunity to hang around with the team and see what they were all about and how the worked. I tried to be there and pay attention, but kept enough distance to allow them to do their jobs.”

Monday’s test is also the first time Furniture Row Racing will test with a Toyota.
