David Gilliland’s future unknown with departure from Front Row Motorsports

David Gilliland spent six of his 10 years in the Sprint Cup Series driving for Front Row Motorsports.

That relationship came to an end Thursday along with the news that Chris Buescher, the 2015 Xfinity Series champion, would be driving the No. 34 car in 2016 as part of a collaboration with Roush Fenway Racing. Gilliland had driven the No. 38.

Front Row, owned by Bob Jenkins, will name its second driver at a later date.

Gilliland joined the small Sprint Cup operation in 2010 after spending two years driving the No. 36 at Robert Yates Racing and the 2009 season with multiple teams.

Since 2010, Gilliland has earned only two top-five finishes, both in restrictor-plate races. His second place finish at Talladega in 2013 was part of a sweep of the top two spots as he helped push David Ragan to an upset win on the last lap.

Gilliland has competed in the Sprint Cup Series since running in 15 races in 2006. His only NASCAR national series win came in 2006 at Kentucky Speedway in the Xfinity Series.
