HOMESTEAD, Fla. - NASCAR Chairman Brian France says the Chase format “might be the best thing we could have ever done for the quality of racing” and said that officials will examine in the offseason if to institute it in the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series next year.
France made the comment to reporters Friday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
“We got exactly what we wanted, which is great racing,’’ France said of the Chase format in the Cup series. “Obviously, when you get great racing, you get great moments.’’
France said series officials will see if they can incorporate the Chase format into the Xfinity and Truck series. Both series determine their champion based on points scored the entire season.
“It won’t be exact, that’s for sure,’’ France said of a Chase format for Xfinity and Truck series. “It has been successful. Our partners in Xfinity and Camping World would like for us to explore what is possible to have their own version of it and we’re going to look at that.
“We’ll look at that in the offseason. We’ve looked at that before and haven’t quite found the perfect thing for each one of those divisions, but we’ll look at that.’’
The Chase debuted in 2004 in the Sprint Cup Series. It started with 10 teams over 10 races and expanded to 12 teams and then to 16 teams. Last year marked the first time for elimination races with the format.
