AVONDALE, Ariz. – For the second consecutive race, NASCAR drivers were warned about interfering in the championship hunt during the drivers meeting.
NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer Steve O’Donnell again made the point to begin the prerace meeting Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway.
Noting there were two races remaining in the season, O’Donnell told drivers to “be professional. If it’s not your day, let those going for the win go for it.”
Last week at Texas Motor Speedway, O’Donnell told drivers NASCAR would react if it saw instances of foul play. Matt Kenseth was suspended for two races (ending at Phoenix) for intentionally wrecking leader and championship contender Joey Logano (one of eight remaining drivers in the third round of the playoffs) with 45 laps left in the Nov. 1 race at Martinsville Speedway.
