AVONDALE, Ariz. - Phoenix International Raceway is among sporting venues across the country monitoring events in Paris and will make any security changes if needed.
At least 127 were killed and 200 wounded in attacks Friday in Paris. ISIS claimed responsibility for the coordinated assault.
Sports leagues have been among many groups to react in the U.S.
The NBA said security would be increased at games, and the NFL stated that security at its games was always at a heightened level of alert. The NHL sent an advisory to teams Friday to be on heightened alert.
Bryan Sperber, president of Phoenix International Raceway, issued a statement on security measures at the track, which will host the Xfinity Series race today and the Sprint Cup Series race Sunday.
“Phoenix International Raceway works closely with the FBI and Homeland Security, as well as other local, state and federal agencies, throughout the planning and implementation of our event security plan,” Sperber stated. “They are closely monitoring the events in Paris and are confident in our plan based on all available information. If they provide us with additional recommendations, we will immediately act accordingly.”
Homeland Security Jeh Johnson issued a statement Friday:
“The Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are closely monitoring events in Paris and we are in contact with our counterparts in the region. At this time, we know of no specific or credible threats of an attack on the U.S. homeland of the type that occurred in Paris.
“As we do regularly, and out of an abundance of caution, DHS and the FBI are consulting with state and local law enforcement. We are also in communication with relevant private sector organizations to advise them of what we know, and to hear from them about security precautions they may take.’'
