AVONDALE, Ariz. - Rico Abreu, who will make his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut tonight at Phoenix International Raceway, says he’s unsure what he’ll be doing in 2016.
Abreu, who won a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race this year and finished fifth in the season standings, is scheduled to compete in next Friday’s Truck series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, pending NASCAR approval. He’s driving for NTS Motorsports.
After that, the reigning Chili Bowl Nationals winner is looking for a ride in NASCAR.
“I would love to run whatever next year,’’ Abreu said. “Right now we don’t have any plans, and I’ll basically just fill in my sprint car races in when I’m not racing stock cars.’’
The 23-year-old still will be busy after next week. He’s scheduled to compete in the Turkey Night Grand Prix midget race and will drive in the Snowball Derby for David Gilliland. Abreu also will compete in some sprint car races in Arizona in the offseason before defending his Chili Bowl title.
