Joey Logano ‘disgusted’ by fan reaction after Matt Kenseth wrecked him

FORT WORTH, Texas - Joey Logano said he was “disgusted” with fans who cheered after Matt Kenseth intentionally wrecked him last weekend at Martinsville Speedway.

“Was I surprised to see the fans’ reaction after something like that? Yes I was,’’ Logano said Friday at Texas Motor Speedway. “I was disgusted by it.’’

Many in the crowd cheered when Kenseth ran Logano into the Turn 1 wall at Martinsville while Logano led. Kenseth was 10 laps down and sought retribution for their incident at Kansas. Kenseth spun after contact with Logano as they raced for the lead in the final laps there last month.

NASCAR suspended Kenseth two races for wrecking Logano at Martinsville. Kenseth lost two appeals Thursday and will sit out this weekend’s race at Texas Motor Speedway and next weekend’s race at Phoenix International Raceway. Erik Jones will drive for Kenseth.

Logano said he’s seeking to look at last weekend’s incident in a different way.

“I’m going to look at the silver lining on this one,’’ Logano said. “There are more No. 22 T-shirts and Joey Logano T-shirts and hats walking around. When I was walking out of Martinsville, I noticed that.

“I said, ‘Man, there are more fans that root for me than ever before. That’s pretty cool.’ Instead of listening to the critics and the fans that may not like it, I’m going to look at the silver lining and say, ‘You know what, I have more fans than I’ve had before and I love it and I appreciate every one of them.’

“They’re very good people. I feel like they’re not the ones throwing things on the race track. They’re very stand-up people, and I appreciate them wearing my T-shirt. That’s something I want to have my name involved with, people like that. I appreciate having a lot of support on my side.’’
