Longtime U.S. Senator and former presidential candidate John McCain will serve as Grand Marshal for next month’s Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.
The Arizona Republican and highly decorated war veteran will give the command for drivers to start engines as part of his duties for the Nov. 15 race, which is the second-to-last race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
“The fall race at Phoenix International Raceway has traditionally coincided with Veterans Day, and the Grand Marshal for this year’s Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race will be one of the most recognizable veterans in America,” the track said in a media release.
All grandstand seats for the race – which is also honoring the retiring Jeff Gordon – are sold out, but general admission on the hillside adjacent to Turns 3 and 4 remain.
