U.S. Senator John McCain named grand marshal for Phoenix Chase race

Carter And Chair of Joint Chiefs Testify At Senate Panel On US Strategy In Mideast

WASHINGTON, DC - OCTOBER 27: Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain (R-AZ) (R) and Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) hold a hearing about U.S. military strategy in the Middle East in the Dirksen Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill October 27, 2015 in Washington, DC. The committee heard testimony from Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford Jr. about changes in the strategy that will continue to support Iraqi forces and pro-Western forces in Syria in the fight against ISIS and the Assad regime. Longtime U.S. Senator and former presidential candidate John McCain will serve as Grand Marshal for next month’s Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.

The Arizona Republican and highly decorated war veteran will give the command for drivers to start engines as part of his duties for the Nov. 15 race, which is the second-to-last race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

“The fall race at Phoenix International Raceway has traditionally coincided with Veterans Day, and the Grand Marshal for this year’s Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race will be one of the most recognizable veterans in America,” the track said in a media release.

All grandstand seats for the race – which is also honoring the retiring Jeff Gordon – are sold out, but general admission on the hillside adjacent to Turns 3 and 4 remain.
