Logano is halfway leader in caution-free race thus far at Talladega

JOEYLOGANO

Joey Logano is the leader at the halfway point of Sunday’s CampingWorld.com 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Clint Bowyer is running second behind Logano, followed by Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson. Sixth through 10th are Kyle Larson pole-sitter Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jamie McMurray.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., who won there in the spring race, has led a race-high 42 laps of the first 94 laps in the scheduled 188-lap race.

Denny Hamlin’s advancement hopes to Round 3 of the Chase for the Sprint Cup could be in trouble.

Hamlin pitted on Lap 87 to fix a loose roof hatch flap. His team put tape on it, but the affixing promptly flew off on the backstretch as soon as he returned to the racetrack.

Surprisingly, the race has been incident-free, with no cautions. There have been 15 lead changes.

Drivers below the eighth-place cut-off line in the live standings are Martin Truex Jr. (-6), Ryan Newman (-9), Earnhardt (-16) and Matt Kenseth (-19).
