Ryan Newman joined the chorus of drivers who blamed Kevin Harvick for causing the big wreck at the end of Sunday’s CampingWorld.com 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Newman arguably was affected the most by the wreck, as it cost him the chance to advance to the third round of the Chase, missing by three points.
When asked whether he knew what he had to do on the final restart to finish ahead of the Chase cutoff on the final restart, Newman responded:
“Which one? The final, final restart? Or, the one where we were only going to have one and not anymore? And then the No. 4 (Kevin Harvick) causing the crash. Which one do you want me to talk about?”
Newman was then asked, “There are going to be a lot of questions about that. Does that tick you off?”
Newman replied, “Well, I guess if you come up with a new rule every week, we’ll have something to talk about, won’t we?”
It’s a bittersweet end of the Chase for Newman, who advanced to the final round last season, finishing second to Harvick in the championship battle.
There’s also some irony involved: It was Harvick’s move to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014 that forced Newman to be released from the organization at the end of the 2013 season.
Where does Newman now go from here?
“We’ll just go to Martinsville like everybody else,” he said.
