The Xfinity Series side of Richard Childress Racing has a new name in charge of its operations.

RCR announced that former crew chief Gil Martin has been named its competition director for the Xfinity Series.

Martin has been with RCR since 2000 and served as the crew chief on the No. 3 Sprint Cup team and helped lead Clint Bowyer to the Xfinity Series championship in 2005.

“Gil has been in this role before with RCR and we are confident he will do as solid a job as he did before,” said Dr. Eric Warren, director of competition for RCR in a team release. “Gil has a tradition of success with this team and his leadership role with our Xfinity Series program will make our four teams even stronger.”

Martin will lead a Xfinity operation with a driver stable of Brian Scott, Ty Dillon, Brendan Gaughan and Austin Dillon, Paul Menard and Brandon Jones on a part time basis.

“This is an exciting time for our Xfinity Series teams and I’m looking forward to building on our success,” Martin said. “Richard (Childress) has invested significant resources into our Xfinity Series program and we’ve brought in a lot of talented individuals. I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead this group and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
