Hendrick unveils Chase Elliott’s No. 24 paint scheme for 2016

Hendrick Motorsports has revealed the car Chase Elliott will drive in his rookie campaign in the Sprint Cup Series in 2016.

Despite five races remaining for Jeff Gordon in the No. 24, Hendrick is getting a head start on preparing fans for what the car will look like with the 2014 Xfinity Series champion behind the wheel. The reveal was made on Fox Sports 1’s NASCAR Race Hub, which was simulcast in Times Square in New York City.

“I think the car turned out great and hope everybody likes it,” said Elliott, who will continue to be sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts. “They were really open and willing to some of the ideas that we had. The light blue stripes actually came off of their (NHRA) car that Ron Capps runs. So it’s kind of cool to keep it all in the family and I think it turned out pretty cool.”

NASCAR fans got a glimpse of Elliott in the Sprint Cup in 2015 when the son of Bill Elliott competed in five races. In place of the No. 24, Elliott drove the No. 25.

In those races, Elliott’s best result was 16th at Richmond International Raceway.

Elliott will make his first start in the No. 24 in February at Daytona International Speedway. The number has been driven by Gordon since he made his debut in the 1992 season finale at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

“I’ll be honest -- it is weird,” Elliott said. “It may be weird for other people, but it’s definitely weird for me. Just to have a chance to go do something that you’ve wanted to do since you were a little kid, for me, is special. I don’t think it’s going to completely set in until we’re about to go to Daytona next year because that’s going to be the realization that this is about to happen. Even right now seeing this car and how great it turned out, having NAPA on board is awesome. But for me, I think until we’re getting ready to load this thing up to go to the 500 next February, it’s going to be quite a feeling.”
