Three teams will be working on the recently announced 2016 Sprint Cup rules package on Tuesday at Michigan International Speedway – including one Chase contender.

Chase driver Denny Hamlin (Toyota), as well as Xfinity Series points leader Chris Buescher (Ford) and defending Xfinity series champion Chase Elliott (Chevrolet), will be looking to find combinations that will be able to be translated to MIS’s two Sprint Cup weekends next season.

“What we’re hoping to accomplish is, first of all, looking at the tire and getting the tire right, and the speeds in the corners, everything that we’ve looked at from a low downforce perspective,” NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer Steve O’Donnell said. “The goal is reduce the speeds in the corner (and) bring a tire that has more grip and more wear.

“We think we’ll deliver both of those, which ultimately produces great racing. So that’s what we expect to see in Michigan, and that’s the data we want to collect as we go out there for the test.”

The test, which will run from 9 am to 4 pm ET, is open to the public. Fans can view the on-track action in the Turn 1 grandstand. Admission is free.

Fans are asked to park in Lot 10 off US 12 and enter the grandstand through Gate 17.
