Veteran NASCAR crew chief Todd Parrott has begun temporarily working with JTG Daugherty Racing, the team announced.

Parrott serves as Competition Director for Richard Childress Racing’s Xfinity Series teams, but is being loaned to JTG Daugherty -- which is part of the RCR technical alliance -- to help the team improve upon its performance.

“We’ve got Todd Parrott helping us out,” JTG Daugherty Racing owner Tad Geschickter said in a media release. “(Parrott) provides an extra resource to help us improve on the last seven races.”

After winning its first-ever race last season and also making the Chase for the Sprint Cup for the first time in team history, the single-car No. 47 team of JTG Daugherty has struggled in 2015.

Allmendinger earned one win, two top-five and five top-10 finishes last season, but has just three top-10 showings in 2015 (sixth at Las Vegas and seventh at Atlanta and Pocono 2), as well as a career single-season high of two pole positions thus far.

Allmendinger failed to make the Chase this season and is currently 23rd in the Sprint Cup standings heading into Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte.

“We want JTG Daugherty Racing to succeed,” Parrott said. “RCR has a great partnership with the team. With the alliance, it makes sense for me to help out and I want to.

“There are some really good people at JTG Daugherty Racing that work really hard and I know AJ is a passionate guy capable of winning races.”

Crew chief Brian Burns welcomes the opportunity to work with Parrott.

“I’m 100 percent with JTG Daugherty Racing and making our cars better,” Burns said. “Richard Childress is willing to do what it takes to help us get stronger.

“He’s volunteered Todd’s experience and knowledge to work with us and help us identify some weak areas so we can get stronger.”
