NASCAR has placed crew chief Cole Pearn on probation for the rest of the year for a P2 violation discovered with Martin Truex Jr.'s car before last weekend’s race at Dover International Speedway.

NASCAR pulled Truex’s car out of the starting grid and returned it to the laser inspection platform after noticing the right rear quarter panel wheel opening was flared.

NASCAR made Truex start last for an unapproved adjustment. Series officials stated at the time that no additional penalties were anticipated. Upon further review this week, NASCAR officials discovered more evidence to warrant putting Pearn on probation.

The penalty is similar to what NASCAR gave to Paul Wolfe, crew chief for Brad Keselowski, after the right and left rear quarter panel wheel openings were modified after qualifying inspection at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March. Wolfe remains on probation until Dec. 31.
