NASCAR on NBC’s Kyle Petty will be among those who will help select the winner of the inaugural Comcast Community Champion of the Year Award.
The award, to be presented in November at the Xfinity/Camping World Truck Series banquet, recognizes those employed by teams in the Sprint Cup, Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series.
Matt Lederer, executive director of sports brand marketing for Comcast, said one person from each of the three series will be recognized. One of those three will be selected as the winner and will have $60,000 donated to the charity of their choice. The other two will have $30,000 donations made to the charity of their choice.
Petty will be joined on the panel by Comcast executives, a member of the NASCAR Foundation and NASCAR.com’s Holly Cain.
“It’s a huge honor for me,’’ Petty said. “What Comcast is doing with the Community Champion of the Year, we hear so much about what drivers do, what team owners do. To take it to the next level and encompass all the team members and every one at each garage, there’s so much those guys do away from the race track in their community.’’
