Reports indicate Bowyer, who will be without a ride with Michael Waltrip Racing closing at the end of the season, will then replace Tony Stewart in the No. 14 Chevrolet at Stewart-Haas Racing in 2017.
Tony Stewart is expected to announce at a press conference at 1 p.m. ET Wednesday that 2016 will be his final season driving in NASCAR.
Bowyer’s placement in the No. 51 would mean the displacement of Justin Allgaier, who is in his second full season with HScott Motorsports.
The second driver at HScott Motorsports is Michael Annett in the No. 46.
In 10 full-time seasons, Bowyer has eight wins and 58 top-five finishes. His last win came in 2012 when he earned three victories.
Bowyer is 16th in the Chase for the Sprint Cup point standings and likely needs to win this weekend in the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway to advance to the second round.
