NASCAR watching restarts closely

IMG_1041

NASCAR stated at the beginning of the Chase for the Sprint Cup that it would police restarts more closely by pointing a camera toward the restart zone and having at least one senior series official near the restart zone to monitor the cars.

Sunday’s race NASCAR started with two officials across from the restart zone, which was just past the entrance to pit road. Those officials were Chad Little, NASCAR’s managing director of technical inspection and officiating, and Elton Sawyer, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series managing director. Both are former drivers. Little had 217 Sprint Cup starts and 134 in the Xfinity Series. Sawyer stated 29 Cup races and 392 Xfinity races.

They watched the first two restarts together before Little left. Sawyer remained.

There were no issues with the restarts early in Sunday’s race.
