Olympic triathlete to drive pace car at Loudon

sarah true 2

One of the top-ranked Olympic triathletes in the world, Sarah True is training hard for next year’s Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

But the Hanover, N.H., native will take a break this Sunday to run a different kind of race, as she’ll drive the pace car and bring the field to green for the Sylvania 300 Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

“While I’ve raced my bike around NHMS, I never dreamed that I’d be hitting the track in the pace car,” True said in a track media release. “As both a New Hampshirite and NASCAR fan, I can’t imagine a more incredible honor.

“These drivers and their teams are finely-tuned racing machines; I can’t wait to pick up some speed tips from them.”

True, who is the second-ranked female triathlete in the U.S. and third in the world, just barely missed earning a medal in the 2012 London Olympic Games, finishing fourth.

According to NHMS officials, True and her husband Ben are “huge fans of NASCAR, specifically six-time Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson. Ben is also competing for a spot on the Rio Olympic Team.”
