CHICAGO – Matt Kenseth still remembers many of the tense moments and confrontations in last year’s Chase for the Sprint Cup – some more than others.
One of the most notable incidents involved Kenseth – when he put Brad Keselowski in a headlock after last October’s race in Charlotte.
After several run-ins between the pair during the race, Keselowski sideswiped Kenseth’s car after the race on pit road. After both drivers climbed from their cars, an incensed Kenseth sought Keselowski and found him outside the latter’s hauler.
It was the heat of the moment, in the heat of the Chase. And video of that little scuffle became one of the most replayed highlights of the Chase.
When asked during Thursday’s Chase Media Day if there is any reason to think this year’s Chase will have less pushing and shoving, Kenseth took the politically correct route – kind of.
“I hope it happens,” he said with a laugh. “That stuff is great to watch. It makes great TV. It’s great storylines. That stuff is really fun if you’re not in it, so I hope so.”
But there’s one little caveat to that, Kenseth added:
“I just hope I’m not in it.”
