With former crew chief Wally Rogers having left Leavine Family Racing last week, Michael McDowell will have a new crew chief this weekend at Richmond International Raceway.

Kevin Walter will serve as interim crew chief.

“We’re thankful to have additional engineering support from Team Penske during this time as we make changes to improve overall performance and prepare for the 2016 season,” team owner Bob Leavine said in a team release.

McDowell has made 11 starts this season in the No. 95 Ford. His best finish is 20th last month at Watkins Glen. He’s failed to qualify for three races.

This will be McDowell’s 10th career Sprint Cup start at Richmond. His best finish is 20th. He’s failed to finish eight of his nine prior Cup starts there.

It will also be McDowell’s first race at Richmond in two years, having finished last in the September 2013 Cup race there.

“We didn’t race at Richmond last year with Leavine Family Racing team, so I’m excited to get back to this track,” McDowell said. “With the personnel changes, we’ll have additional support from Penske on the competition side.
