Gail Sommer Germain, wife of NASCAR Sprint Cup team owner Bob Germain Jr., has died after a fight with breast cancer, Germain Racing announced Saturday. She was 45.

She made her battle with cancer public in an effort to inspire other women to keep their grace and dignity throughout the challenges of cancer. Gifts to The Gracie Foundation Inc. are used to fund comfort bags for women undergoing cancer treatments.

In honor of Gail Sommer Germain, the No. 13 car of Casey Mears has long featured a pink ribbon on the C-post, a nod to Gracie on the B-post and a special message on the decklid. The team’s crew members will wear pink arm bands in honor of her this weekend at Darlington Raceway.
