Justin Allgaier’s throwback theme for the Southern 500’s return to its traditional Labor Day weekend race date at Darlington Raceway honors the career of four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt.

Foyt made 128 career starts in his NASCAR Sprint Cup career, scoring seven wins, 29 top-five and 36 top-10 finishes. He also earned nine poles.
Foyt made just one career NASCAR start at Darlington, finishing 20th in the 1985 Southern 500, bowing out about two-thirds of the way through the event due to brake issues.
This will be Allgaier’s second career Sprint Cup start at Darlington He finished 23rd last year.
