Rain washes out Xfinity qualifying at Road America -- but race will still go on this afternoon

ben rhodes 2015

Ben Rhodes will start from the pole in Saturday’s Road America 180 Fired Up By Johnsonville after qualifying was rained out Saturday morning.

Rain washed out this morning’s qualifying for today’s Road America 180 Fired Up By Johnsonville.

However, the race itself will still go on -- rain or shine -- later this afternoon, with the green flag expected to fall shortly after 3 pm ET.

This will potentially be the second consecutive Xfinity race at Road America that have been run in the rain. About half of last year’s race was contested under rainy conditions.

Because qualifying was cancelled, the starting grid has been set based upon Friday’s first of two practice sessions.

That means rookie Ben Rhodes will be credited with the first Xfinity pole (in seven starts) of his young career. Chase Elliott will sit on the outside pole, still looking for his first win of the 2015 Xfinity Series season.

Here’s how the qualifying grid looks, based upon Friday’s first practice:
