With all of the history to be seen during the Sept. 6 weekend at Darlington Raceway for the Southern 500, this post might be the only time you see this little tribute.

Goodyear revealed yesterday that the tire company was also participating in the retro weekend. The tires used by Sprint Cup teams will have an early white logo instead of the modern yellow logo.

Darlington opened in 1950. Six years later, Goodyear, founded in 1898, began marketing its first full line of stock car racing tires. In 1997, Goodyear became the exclusive tire provider of NASCAR.
